Specialty Selection Test for ST1/CT1 across the UK
Applicants to ST1/CT1 Specialty Training:
You have been invited to participate in the Specialty Selection Test (pilot). This test will take place between 13-25 January 2014 and you will need to secure a place prior to 21 December 2013. The purpose of this test is to evaluate whether these tests enhance the current methods of selection used for ST1/CT1 level recruitment. We are seeking your feedback as this will help to inform us on whether this is a useful method of selection. More information about the test is available on the specialty training website www.specialtytraining.nhs.uk.
Applicant progression will be followed for a number of years to ensure a long-term robust evaluation. Individual test results will not form part of the selection process and will not be shared with employers or regulators. When evaluation results are shared, they will be anonymised such that is it not possible to identify an individual in any such report.
If you are already undertaking the GP test as part of your application to GP or Broad Based Training, then you do not need to sit this test as sample questions will be embedded in that test. Furthermore, if you are applying to a number of different specialties, you will only be required to sit this test once.
Use the links on the right hand side to locate your nearest centre and book a place. The SST is only available in test centres in the United Kingdom, which are located within close proximity to most hospitals. Create an account using your email address and your 7 digit GMC registration number. Further guidance about scheduling an assessment is given below.
Thank you once again for agreeing to participate. Your feedback will help to inform us on whether this is a useful method of selection. Don’t forget that you could also be eligible to win one of five prizes, which includes a 32GB iPad or Kindle Fire HD.
Please contact SST support if you have any questions about the test at email@example.com.
The SST will consist of a two hour and fifteen minute online test. It will be completely computer based and will consist of two parts; a Clinical Problem Solving (CPS) test and a Situational Judgement Test (SJT). The questions have been developed by leading specialties according to specialty person specifications and the foundation programme curriculum. Please click on the following link to view the candidate familiarisation document (PDF, 67 KB), which includes example CPS and SJT items to give you an indication of the type of questions you might be asked.
