What exactly is the change that Microsoft is making?
On January 1, 2015, Pearson VUE became the sole, authorized exam delivery provider for Microsoft Certification exams. Candidates who wish to take a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exam will schedule and take exams exclusively at Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers.
What are the key dates for this transition?

Who is Pearson VUE?
Pearson VUE (www.pearsonvue.com) provides computer-based testing for information technology, academic, government and professional testing programs around the world. Pearson VUE provides a full suite of services from test development to data management, and delivers exams through the world’s most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in 175 countries. Pearson VUE is a business of Pearson, the world's leading learning company.
Why is Microsoft making this change?
Microsoft has partnered with Pearson VUE to deliver innovative skills validation solutions for customers. Microsoft has a long history of testing with Pearson VUE and its Certiport business. Between the two businesses, Microsoft has worked with Pearson VUE for more than 15 years. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) academic exams will continue to be delivered via the Certiport test center network as they have been up to this point. However, Microsoft is expanding its relationship with Pearson VUE beyond its Certiport delivery to include delivery of the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and MTA exams through Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers. Effective January 1, 2015, Pearson VUE and Certiport became the sole exam delivery provider for Microsoft. This will enable Microsoft to provide a more seamless customer experience through the Microsoft Certification exam testing process as well as introduce greater skills validation integrity. Over the months and years ahead, Microsoft plans to introduce other innovations designed to enhance the candidate experience as part of this expanded relationship with Pearson VUE.
How do Microsoft and Pearson VUE manage a candidate’s personal information?
What forms of ID are acceptable for candidates to provide at the time of admission to a Pearson VUE test center?
During the admissions process, candidates must provide two (2) forms of original (no photocopies), valid (unexpired) identification: One primary ID that is government-issued with name, photo and signature as well as a secondary form with name and signature.
Acceptable forms of primary ID are:
- Driver’s license
- Other government-issued ID, such as a national/state/province identification card
- Alien registration card (green card, permanent resident visa)
- Military ID (including spouse and dependents)
- Government-issued: A local language ID (not in Roman characters) will be accepted only if issued from the country in which the candidate is testing
Acceptable forms of secondary ID are:
- Any ID containing at least name and signature meeting the original/valid requirements
ID exception for minors:
- Pertains to students who only have one form of photo ID (School ID is acceptable)
- Student needs to be accompanied by an adult who has proper government-issued ID.
- The adult needs to sign next to the minor on the log-in sheet to verify the student’s identity
Note: To receive academic pricing, students must have proper student ID validation from an accredited school to prove student status.
How can my organization become a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center?
It’s easy to join the Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center network if you meet basic requirements. You’ll find an application, technical specifications and instructions for academic, commercial and US government, military or correctional centers at home.pearsonvue.com/For-test-centers.aspx.
My organization is currently a Pearson VUE test center. Do we need to renew our agreement to deliver MCP exams?
No. Pearson VUE does not plan to make any changes to its authorized testing center agreement.
Are the testing center requirements the same for IT Academy testing centers?
No, the requirements to deliver MCP exams as a Pearson VUE® Authorized Testing Center are different than the requirements for a Certiport testing center or a Prometric testing center. Can IT Academy members continue to offer exams at an Academic Discount?
Yes, members can continue to offer exams at an Academic Discount if they become a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center. Pricing is unchanged.
What is the cost to setup a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center, and is this cost covered as part of my ITA membership?
There is no fee to become a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center, but there are requirements that include the purchase of a security kit, containing two web cameras and a digital signature pad. This kit can be purchased from Pearson VUE for $450 USD (including shipping) or centers may purchase the components on their own, so long as the purchase equipment that meets Pearson VUE’s specifications. Do any of the exam requirements change?
Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers are required to implement Pearson VUE’s Enhanced Security Protocol, which includes capturing a candidate photograph and digital signature. For more information about Pearson VUE testing center requirements, visit home.pearsonvue.com/For-test-centers.aspx.
Are there any additional benefits to my organization in testing through Pearson VUE?
There are several benefits to becoming a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center. In addition to MCP exams, Pearson VUE test centers may deliver exams for nearly every other major IT program, including CompTIA, Cisco, HP, IBM, Oracle and many others. Will Pearson VUE exam vouchers be accepted at Certiport testing centers?
The processes for testing at Certiport and Pearson VUE test centers are different. Pearson VUE vouchers are not accepted at Certiport testing centers or vice versa.
I’m a Certiport test center and register my class at once via an upload. Will this work with MCP exams?
No. The Certiport testing process will remain the same for Microsoft exams delivered by Certiport. MCP exams will be delivered through Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers.
I have prepaid exam vouchers I have purchased from Prometric. If I become a Pearson VUE testing center, can these vouchers be used in the Pearson VUE system?
Yes, unused, unexpired Prometric vouchers may be used to schedule an exam in the Pearson VUE registration system after January 6, 2015.
Will I receive my MCT and MCT Alumni discount when testing at a Pearson VUE center?
If you are an MCT, or an MCT Alumni, you will receive a 50% discount on MCP exams. In both cases, you must register for your exam on-line at www.microsoft.com/learning in order to receive your discount.
I’ve already requested the maximum number of MCT discount vouchers from Prometric. Can I use them to test with Pearson VUE? If not, when can I request new ones?
You will not need a voucher to receive your MCT discount when testing with Pearson VUE. Simply register for your exam on-line at www.microsoft.com/learning using the Microsoft account associated with your MCT membership, and you will automatically receive your discount. There is no limit on the number of exams you may take using your MCT discount at Pearson VUE testing centers.
Where are Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers located?
Pearson VUE currently has more than 5,000 Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers in more than 175 countries; as well as several hundred company-owned and operated Pearson Professional Centers. Does Pearson VUE offer all Microsoft Certification exams?
Pearson VUE offers Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams and Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exams through its Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Centers. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and academic MTA exams will continue to be delivered through Certiport, a business of Pearson VUE.
What does the admission process involve for Microsoft candidates testing at a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center?
The admission process when taking proctored exams will now include enhanced security requirements for those wishing to take Microsoft Certified Professional exams at a Pearson VUE® Authorized Test Center. In addition to the current identification and admission requirements, test takers who are taking a proctored exam will now be photographed and asked to provide a digital signature. The photograph and signature will become a permanent part of each candidate’s Microsoft Certification record. Photos taken during the admission process will be printed on score reports and all candidate data will be securely stored and protected by Pearson VUE. These requirements may be modified according to local laws.
What are the benefits of capturing digital photos and signatures?
Digital photos may be used to assure employers that the person presenting the certification credential is the same individual who took the exam. Likewise, test takers are given peace of mind knowing that their credentials are protected. We believe this initiative will help to ensure that Microsoft IT Certifications maintain their integrity and value in the marketplace.
Have Pearson VUE’s testing requirements changed?
No. Because Microsoft sets the testing requirements for its exams, the requirements at Pearson VUE will continue to be the same as for Prometric.
Are the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exams on the Pearson VUE system different?
No, the exams are exactly the same—they look the same and are scored exactly the same.
Is there any change to exam customer pricing?
No. Customer pricing does not change.
Can Pearson VUE sites accommodate candidates with special needs?
Yes, Pearson VUE and Microsoft allow accommodations to candidates who are identified as having special needs. Please visit home.pearsonvue.com/test-taker/Test-accommodations.aspx to learn more or request an accommodation.
What if I already have an MCP exam scheduled with Prometric?
The last exam delivery date at a Prometric test center was December 31, 2014.
I have an unexpired Prometric exam voucher but have not yet scheduled my MCP exam, what do I do?
Any unexpired, prepaid Prometric exam vouchers may be used to schedule an exam by visiting www.microsoft.com/learning or at a Pearson VUE test center after January 6, 2015.
How do I register for an exam after September 4, 2014?
The easiest way is to visit www.microsoft.com/learning, sign in, find the exam you want to take, and click the “Schedule with Pearson VUE” button. Pearson VUE’s registration is integrated with the Microsoft system so no additional logins are needed. Appointments may be made in advance or on the day you wish to test, subject to availability. Pearson VUE also offers scheduling by phone and directly through the test center, but you must create a profile on www.microsoft.com/learning before you can use these additional scheduling options. Creating a profile is a one-time requirement.
When you register for your exam with Pearson VUE at www.microsoft.com/learning, you may receive personalized exam preparation tips, and your transcript will be updated within one business day following your exam.
If you wish to take your exam at a Prometric testing center, you must register directly with Prometric. Your exam transcript will be updated within 5 to 7 business days following your exam. When scheduling an exam at a Prometric testing center, you must select a date no later than December 31, 2014.
I’m an academic student. Can I register for my Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) or Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exam through Pearson VUE?
Academic students who wish to complete their MOS or MTA exams will continue to register with a Certiport testing center to complete their exams.
Will I be able to use Prometric vouchers that I have already bought?
Any unexpired, unused Prometric exam vouchers may be used to schedule an exam at www.microsoft.com/learning or at a Pearson VUE test center after January 6, 2015.
Do I have to buy a voucher to schedule/purchase a Microsoft exam with Pearson VUE?
No, individual test takers may also use a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express), vouchers, and promotion codes to schedule or purchase an exam in the Pearson VUE system. If you would like to pay for your exam using a purchase order (PO), you must purchase through the Pearson VUE Voucher Store at www.pearsonvue.com/vouchers.
Where can Pearson VUE vouchers be purchased?
Pearson VUE vouchers can be purchased through the Pearson VUE Voucher Store.
Please Note: While pre-paid vouchers offer convenience to some purchasers, candidates do not need to purchase a voucher to schedule an exam. A credit card may also be used at the time of scheduling.
Can my prepaid Prometric voucher be used at a Pearson VUE center?
Any unexpired, unused Prometric exam vouchers may be used to schedule an exam at www.microsoft.com/learning or at a Pearson VUE test center after January 6, 2015.
What will happen to my records and testing history with Prometric?
All records and testing history are the property of Microsoft, and this information will remain with Microsoft and will be visible on your transcript as they are today. Likewise, all new records created through Pearson VUE testing will be forwarded to Microsoft for processing and storage and will be visible on your transcript.
I already have taken and passed one of the two exams required to earn a Microsoft Certification at a Prometric test center. Can I take the second exam at Pearson VUE, and if I pass, earn my Microsoft Certification?
Yes. Once you create a profile on the Microsoft website at www.microsoft.com/learning, you can schedule your exam there as well. Because all previous and future results are the property of Microsoft, this will not affect existing certifications or certification paths.
I have taken all my previous Microsoft exams with Prometric. Will all my new Pearson VUE exams be added to the same record or will I now have different records?
If you used the same Microsoft Certification ID for each exam, you will have only one record in the Microsoft database. If more than one Microsoft Certification ID was used, you’ll need to request an ID merge from Microsoft at www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/help.aspx.
I discovered that I have duplicate records in the Microsoft database. How can I get these merged?

I took an exam through Prometric and it is not located in my Microsoft transcript. Now what?
