Career Spotlight: Nursing

The U.S. government provides many opportunities to both Service members and civilians pursuing nursing careers. Nurses are needed in the Armed Forces as well as government hospitals and clinics. While not every branch of the military offers nursing commissions and education programs, there is a demand for licensed nurses in all components as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Nursing is a field that can serve as a lifelong career for Service members during military service and after a transition to civilian life. Whether you are entering the military and considering a vocation in nursing, or have already completed your education and are interested in serving in the military, or if you are at the stage of planning for a career after completion of military service, consider the many avenues available with nursing education and licensure.
