American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT)

The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT)

The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT) is the world’s largest technical society for nondestructive testing (NDT) professionals. Through our organization and membership, we provide a forum for exchange of NDT technical information; NDT educational materials and programs; and standards and services for the qualification and certification of NDT personnel.

NDT is the process of testing, inspecting, and evaluating materials, components or assemblies for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying the serviceability of the part or system. In other words, when the inspection or test is completed, the part can still be used.

ASNT Certification Services

ASNT formed the ASNT Certification Services LLC (ASNT CS), a nonprofit limited liability company that manages and operates the certification and accreditation programs of the Society. ASNT Certification Services provides oversight for all ASNT Certification programs. ASNT’s certification process has improved the quality of the profession and provided an accepted means for members to demonstrate they have met the requirements of the industry. For employers, ASNT certification is an impartial validation of the competence of NDT personnel in the field.

ASNT CS offers these certification programs with computer-based testing:

  • ASNT NDT Level II and Level III
  • ASNT 9712 Level II and Level III
  • ASNT IRRSP
  • Naval Shipbuilders NDT Level III Specific Exam

To reschedule or cancel your exam appointment, log in to the MyCert portal (My Exams section) or call PearsonVUE at least 48 hours before your scheduled appointment.

On Exam Day

  • Arrive at the test center 30 minutes prior to your scheduled exam time to check in.
  • Present valid identification – Two valid forms of ID are required to sit for the exam.
    1. A primary government-issued ID with name, recent recognizable photo, and signature.
    2. A secondary ID with a name and signature or name and recent recognizable photo.
  • All IDs must be original (no photocopies) and valid (not expired), including matching name and signature.
  • Pearson VUE test center staff will match the name on your ID to the name in their system (your name as it appears within your ASNT Account). If there are discrepancies, please contact ASNT Certification Services at least 72 hours prior to the exam to update your record. The name on your ID must match exactly, no exceptions. If your ID is expired or the name does not match at the time of the exam, you will forfeit the exam fee.
  • Each candidate will be required to take a photo and provide a signature prior to beginning the exam.
  • A calculator is built into the exam software for use during testing. Please refrain from bringing your own calculator and review the calculator guide prior to the exam.
  • All ASNT exams are administered in written US English. There are five languages available in the online exam dictionary. They are Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and British English. The translation provided represents the single most common usage of the word and we do not guarantee that each translation given will match the intended usage in context of the ASNT certification exam

Attaining Certification

Candidates attain certification upon successfully passing all the required exams (computer-based and practical, when applicable) for their chosen certification program, provided there are no deficiencies in their application and payment. Upon successful completion of the exam and the approval of your application, you can expect to receive a digital badge via email after the exam results are processed and your record updated. For more information on digital badges, visit the Digital Badges page. Certification can also be verified by searching the certificate holder directory.

Maintaining Certification

Once you become certified, it is important to maintain your credentials. You can renew your certification, either by application or by examination, depending on the program. Visit the Recertification page for individual program details. Login to the MyCert portal to keep up-to-date on your certification status.
