American Board Certification

Take your exam from home. Simply choose 'Online at my home or office' when presented with exam options. Learn more about OnVUE.

OnVUE testing is available for the Professional Teaching Knowledge (PTK-Opl-02) only.

It is your responsibility to review the technical requirements to ensure your system is compatible with the online proctoring software. If your system does not meet the requirements and causes a problem during the exam, you will have to reschedule at your own cost. Additionally, when choosing the online delivery option, American Board candidates accept all responsibility for the testing environment and ensuring all requirements are met. If your exam is revoked for any reason, as noted by Pearson, this will result in the candidate needing to purchase a test retake. If concerned about these requirements, candidates are encouraged to test in a Pearson VUE test center.

American Board certification involves a detailed self-assessment in each certification area, the help of an advisor, access to a variety of preparation materials including online refresher courses, practice tests and our online Prepare to Teach workshops, and a set of rigorous examinations.

Visit the Exam Preparation Center to learn about the preparation resources designed specifically for the American Board exams. These resources are the only materials that align to the standards of the American Board exams.

NOTE: Scheduled and rescheduled Examinations will be confirmed by email. Please do not leave the Pearson VUE rescheduling page without completely confirming your rescheduled exam date, if you do, you have NOT completed the rescheduling of your exam. You will be charged for a no-show appointment and you will be charged an additional fee to reschedule your exam. If you do NOT receive an email confirmation of your rescheduled appointment, please contact Pearson VUE.
