Australian Dental Council
The Australian Dental Council (ADC) Written Examination is designed to test the candidate’s knowledge of the science and practice of dentistry and to assess clinical judgement and reasoning skills relevant to dental practice in Australia.
The Written Examination is held twice a year, over two full consecutive days, and consists of four 2-hour examination papers. Each paper consists of 80 scenario-based multiple-choice and single-best answer multiple-choice questions. All four papers must be completed in one examination session.
To book a place in the upcoming ADC Written Examination you must have been authorised by the ADC to sit the examination and have received an Authorisation to Test email from Pearson VUE.
Booking an examination
Once you have received your Authorisation to Test email from Pearson VUE, you may book a place in the Written Examination by selecting one of the following options:
The dates and venues of the ADC Written Examination covered by your authorisation will be available during the booking process. You have authorisation to book both Day One (Paper 1 and Paper 2) and Day Two (Paper 3 and Paper 4) examinations. You must book both examination days and must select the same venue for both days. Please see the ADC Written Examination Booking Policies for further information.
Bookings will be open for approximately three weeks from the date of your Authorisation to Test email. Some venues have limited capacity and are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so you should book as soon as possible once registrations are open.
An indicative list of venues is available on the ADC website. You should ensure that you are able to travel to your preferred venue before booking.
Due to U.S. sanctions, Pearson VUE is unable to provide examination delivery services to residents of Syria unless the candidate can provide proof of primary residency outside of a sanctioned country. If you are a resident of Syria, you should contact the ADC for more information prior to submitting an application for the ADC Written Examination.
Some candidates may require adjustments to the standard examination procedure due to special circumstances or disabilities.
If you would like to request a special accommodation, you must submit your request directly to the ADC in writing together with any supporting documentation. Do not proceed with booking an examination until you have received a response from the ADC.
Changing your booking
You may change your venue selection up until registration closure. Venue changes should be made via Pearson VUE.
If you have booked a place in an examination and later wish to withdraw you must contact the ADC directly and withdrawal fees apply. Please visit the ADC website for more details of the withdrawal process and withdrawal fees.
You cannot change a booking to a later examination. If you wish to sit the examination at a later date you must withdraw from the current examination session and reapply.
Change of contact details
Any changes in your name or contact details must be notified to the ADC immediately using the ADC’s Notification of Change of Contact Details form. Changes to names and contact details cannot be accepted later than six weeks before the examination; after this date candidates should arrange for mail/email to be redirected.
The ADC Written Examination results will be processed and issued by the ADC, and not Pearson VUE. To view the results release dates please refer to the ADC website.
If you have any queries regarding venue changes, if you experience any problems during the booking process, or if you have any complaints about the booking process, please contact Pearson VUE.
