Understanding test accommodations
We provide appropriate arrangements to individuals who demonstrate a documented need. Test accommodations are individualized and considered on a case-by-case basis by or in partnership with your testing program. Test accommodations may also be known as “special arrangements” or “reasonable adjustments."
Pearson VUE test accommodations may include:
- Extra testing time
- A separate testing room
- Breaks
Documenting your disability
We have compiled lists of testing clinics in the U.S. and Canada that may offer lower-cost adult assessments to help you document your disability.
Approved comfort aids
The comfort aids on the Pearson VUE Comfort Aid List are allowed at test centers and during online proctored exams. On exam day, our test center/online proctored staff will ask to visually inspect these items.
Testing exceptions for nursing mothers
Pearson VUE supports test-takers that require an exception to breastfeed or pump breast milk during their exam appointment. Your exam program must approve your accommodation request for you to breastfeed or pump during your exam appointment.
Pumping breast milk
To be considered for a nursing mothers accommodation to pump during your exam, you must complete the accommodation request process. Please check your exam program’s policies prior to scheduling your exam and note that this accommodation request may require you to schedule your exam at a different test center than your preferred location.
Testing at Pearson-owned test center in the Americas
If you are testing at a Pearson VUE-owned and operated test center in the Americas region, we’ve established a private space for women to pump at each location. The private space varies at each test center. It is either a breakroom with a door or a break area with a privacy screen. Each space has a chair, table, and electrical outlet and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Testing at a third-party site or outside the Americas
If you are testing outside of a Pearson VUE-owned and operated test center or outside of the Americas region, our team will make reasonable efforts to find you a suitable space to pump during your exam.
Online proctored testing
If you are testing online with OnVUE, your exam sponsor must approve breaks for you to pump offscreen. Candidates are not permitted to pump while on camera.
Breastfeeding
If you prefer to breastfeed, you must do so outside of the testing facility, as children are not allowed in the test center. Note that you must check your exam program’s policies because some programs do not allow candidates to leave the test center during an exam. Please complete the accommodation request process and, if your program allows you to leave the test center during an exam, our team will make reasonable efforts to help you find a suitable space to breastfeed.
How to request test accommodations
Each exam program has specific processes and requirements. To request accommodations, select the Get Started button, choose your exam program from the list, and follow the instructions on the exam program page.
