Pearson VUE and the Roads and Transport Authority for Dubai Launch First Computer-Based Theory Driving Test in the Middle East
London, U.K., January 26, 2011 — Pearson VUE, the leader in computer-based testing, has launched the theory driving test on behalf of the Roads and Transport Authority for Dubai (RTA) — the first computer-based test for the Middle East transport industry.
RTA - Licensing Agency is responsible for drivers and vehicle licensing in the Emirate of Dubai. It delivers its services through a combination of agency-operated customer service centres, approved agent operators and e-service channels.
The advanced solution created by Pearson VUE allows RTA candidates to perform online registration and scheduling for theory and practical driving tests in either Arabic or English. Candidates receive confirmations via e-mail and/or SMS with an SMS to remind them of the location and time of their assessment before they sit the theory test using touch-screen technology. The test can be delivered in Arabic, English and Urdu with a voiceover feature also available. The bespoke solution will also see instructors begin to use tablet devices during practical tests.
It is estimated that over 500,000 candidates will undertake the theory and practical tests in the first year alone.
Having delivered the theory driving test for the Driving Standards Agency in the UK since 2003 — the world’s largest computer-based test sat by over 1.5 million candidates per year — Pearson VUE is ideally placed to ensure extensive and secure test delivery.
RTA is joined by a number of other Pearson VUE clients who are based in the Middle East including the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, the General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions, the African Society for Quality Healthcare, Fortress and Batterjee Medical College.
Last year, Pearson VUE opened an office in Dubai to meet the Middle East’s increasing demand for computer-based testing. The establishment of a localised office with knowledgeable Arabic-speaking staff has allowed its clients to benefit from improved accessibility and more personal relationships.
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, said:
“We are very proud to be the first authority in the Middle East to offer driving assessments via computer-based testing. By partnering with Pearson VUE to offer innovative, flexible delivery we have cemented our status as the region’s leading transport authority.”
Suzana Lopes, Pearson VUE, VP EMEA Sales and Marketing, added:
“Our extensive experience in delivering comprehensive and pioneering assessments on a large scale, coupled with our status as the industry leader, will ensure that RTA and its candidates benefit from the most premier computer-based testing service available.”
