The Bloomington-based company was recognized as a leader in the Technology Services category for its work on the Pearson Test of English – Academic (PTE-A) exam launched last year.
BLOOMINGTON, Minn., November 11, 2010 — Pearson VUE, the computer-based testing business of Pearson, announced that it is the recipient of a 2010 Tekne Award from the Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA). Winner of the “Technology Services Award,” Pearson VUE received this honor at a ceremony on Nov. 3 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
The 12 Tekne Award categories recognize the best and brightest in innovation, development, commercialization and management of technology in Minnesota. Industry awards included separate categories for small and growing businesses (with annual revenues under $50 million) as well as established businesses, like Pearson VUE.
The Technology Services Award honors companies that succeed in innovative development and/or delivery of technology services and Pearson VUE was chosen as the established company recipient for its work on the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) exam. This exam, launched in October 2009, allows students around the world to better demonstrate their English language skills for admittance into universities. A computer-based exam, the PTE-A allows for more accurate testing through innovative item types including audio samples and recording. The exam is available through Pearson VUE’s global test center network and has been accepted as an admittance test at more than 1,400 major accredited universities.
“All of us at Pearson VUE are honored to receive this important award,” said Robert Whelan, president and chief executive officer of Pearson VUE. “Technology is the backbone of our business, but our focus is on using technology to enrich others’ lives. The Pearson Test of English is a perfect example: Our dedication to technology innovation has made the PTE-A the go-to test for students interested in proving their English language competence,” he explained. “Pearson VUE is committed to using its technological leadership to help people advance in their education and careers, and we’re very grateful to be recognized by MHTA for our work.”
