The National Recruitment Office for General Practice Training Appoints Pearson VUE to Deliver Computer-Based Testing for Trainee Doctors

London, U.K., November 9, 2010 — The National Recruitment Office for General Practice Training (NRO), the body which co-ordinates recruitment to General Practice Specialty Training programmes in the UK, has selected Pearson VUE to deliver Stage Two of the selection process involving the delivery of a computer-based assessment.

Following the successful delivery of two pilots, the NRO selected Pearson VUE’s computer-based testing service to enable candidates to undertake the Clinical Problem Solving and Professional Dilemmas tests at more accessible locations. The three-year agreement will see trainee doctors sit the tests at highly secure and invigilated Pearson VUE test centres nationwide. Assessment will take place over a six-day period at centres located within close proximity to hospitals and NHS trusts, thus ensuring that the NHS does not lose multiple professionals on a single day.

The tests, used to measure knowledge and understanding, will be delivered to approximately 6,000 candidates during a six-day window. Utilisation of Pearson VUE’s sophisticated infrastructure will enable the NRO to rank and shortlist applicants before allocating them to a Deanery for Stage Three of the selection process.

Professor Bill Irish, Chairman of the NRO, said: “The NRO, on behalf of all UK deaneries, is delighted to be working with Pearson VUE on such an important project for the NHS. The delivery of high-stakes selection tests in secure test centres, at a time and place convenient to junior doctors, is a major step forward for us. We are excited to be working with the team at Pearson VUE in this key area.”

Suzana Lopes, Pearson VUE, VP EMEA Sales and Marketing, added: “We are proud to have excelled throughout the delivery of two pilots and to have succeeded in what was a highly competitive tendering process. Our unrivalled ability to deliver secure, invigilated nationwide computer-based testing will further improve the assessment experience for the NRO and its candidates.”
