Pearson VUE Launches Exam Delivery for the Western Regional Examining Board — Patient Assessment and Treatment Planning Dental Exams

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., March 6, 2009 — Pearson VUE, the electronic certification and licensure testing business of Pearson, today announced its contract with the Western Regional Examining Board (WREB) to deliver innovative computer-based Patient Assessment and Treatment Planning Dental Exams. Delivery of the new exams—through the secure Pearson VUE owned-and-operated network of Pearson Professional Centers in the United States and its territories—started in January.

The program leverages the Zoomorphix Systems Glass 3D simulator, already integrated with Pearson VUE’s test driver, to allow complex examinations and computer-simulated testing. Some of the features of the Zoomorphix Systems Glass 3D simulator include the high-speed rendering of 2D and 3D simulations in an interactive environment and full replay of candidate interaction with test items. WREB selected Pearson VUE based on experience with the Zoomorphix platform, industry leading Pearson Professional Centers, and pervasive US coverage.

The WREB was incorporated in 1976 and currently provides exams throughout the country that are accepted for licensure in more than 30 states. Member states work together to develop exams for measuring competence prior to licensure by a state. The WREB is one of five examination agencies in the US that serve to improve the standardization of clinical exams for dental licensure.

“We are truly excited to take this step. The expectation for this new exam and the additional services we are providing to our candidates is high and we are confident in Pearson VUE’s ability to execute the transition,” said Beth Cole, executive director of the Western Regional Examination Board.

“Working with WREB to deliver their complex exam items and increase the accessibility and convenience of the candidate experience has been a pleasure,” said Robert Whelan, president and chief executive officer of Pearson VUE. “Helping the WREB to achieve the reach and responsiveness their program requires through enhanced technology offerings is something we take great pride in, and we look forward to a long and successful relationship.”
