Virginia Board of Nursing and Kentucky Real Estate Commission Renew Partnerships with Pearson VUE
BLOOMINGTON, Minn., April 16, 2008 — Pearson VUE, the electronic certification and licensure testing business of Pearson, announced today that the Virginia Board of Nursing and Kentucky Real Estate Commission have renewed their contracts with Pearson VUE for the development and administration of each agency’s licensure/certification examinations. The contracts were awarded at the conclusion of competitive bidding processes at the end of March and beginning of April of this year.
Virginia Board of Nursing
The Virginia Board of Nursing first selected Pearson VUE (then ASI) in 1996 to administer its nurse aide certification program and ensure consistent competency levels. Since its introduction in Virginia in 1996, the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) examination has been administered to over 65,000 applicants, resulting in nearly 58,000 newly qualified nurse aides being added to the Virginia nurse aide registry.
Pearson VUE not only succeeded in aligning Virginia’s program with NNAAP standards but also made many improvements as well. Among them are same-day testing which allows candidates to take both the written and skills exams and receive confirmation of successful scoring of their exams, all in one day at a single test center; timely updates to the state registry; publication of examination bulletins in print and electronic format; professional nurse aide evaluator training; a streamlined candidate appeals process; call center support and more.
“During the past 12 years that Pearson VUE has administered our nurse aide certification program, we have been extremely pleased with their performance,” said Jay Douglas, executive director of the Virginia Board of Nursing. “Pearson VUE has continually raised our expectations with each new contract term, and we are confident that they will continue to impress us with their high level of service.”
Kentucky Real Estate Commission
Pearson VUE has been the preferred testing vendor for the Kentucky Real Estate Commission (“Commission”) for nearly 20 years now. The partnership began in 1987 when Pearson VUE was first contracted to develop and administer the Commission’s sales and broker licensure examinations. Since then, Pearson VUE and the Commission have built a solid relationship based on a thorough understanding of the Commission’s needs.
Over the years, Pearson VUE and the Commission have worked together to introduce several new initiatives including full conversion from paper and pencil to computer-based testing and a dramatic cut in lag time between exam registration and official licensure (from 30 days to 24 hours). A contributing factor for this fast turnaround is the convenience that Pearson VUE offers through its 10 test centers in Kentucky and outlying states. In fact, 95 percent of Kentucky real estate candidates are able to test at their desired location within five business days. Pearson VUE also offers customized program reports, same-day official scoring, electronic and print publication of candidate handbooks, and full customer support.
Art Valentine, general manager of regulatory services and vice president of professional services at Pearson VUE, said, “We are thrilled that both agencies have renewed their contracts with us, but we know that the competition is not over. There will be many future opportunities for the Virginia Board of Nursing and Kentucky Real Estate Commission to re-bid these contracts, so it is imperative that we continue to deliver a high-quality testing experience to all parties involved.”
Robert Whelan, president of Pearson VUE, added, “The bid process gives us the chance to demonstrate service innovations and enhancements. By selecting Pearson VUE, the Virginia Board of Nursing and Kentucky Real Estate Commission have shown confidence in our capabilities to the benefit of their constituents.”
