National Certification Board for Alzheimer Care Launches New Certifications with Pearson VUE

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., February 25, 2008 — Pearson VUE, the electronic certification and licensure testing business of Pearson, today announced the launch of the Certified Alzheimer Caregiver (CAC) and Certified Alzheimer Educator (CAEd) computer-based certification exams. These exams are delivered throughout the Pearson VUE-owned and -operated network of more than 200 Pearson Professional Centers in the United States and its territories.

The National Certification Board for Alzheimer Care (www.ncbac.net) was founded in 2005 as an organization created for the sole purpose of providing proper certification testing and a registry for health care professionals who are directly and indirectly involved with the care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. A Certified Alzheimer Caregiver has the competence to work on a practical level with persons with Alzheimer’s and related disorders, using the knowledge of the disease to apply care giving strategies to produce the best possible environment of care. A Certified Alzheimer Educator has demonstrated advanced knowledge and understanding of Alzheimer’s and related disorders and has the competence to effectively teach the concepts and strategies to produce the best possible environment of care.

“Now that our pilot testing is complete, NCBAC is ready to offer certification exams throughout the year at the exceptional Pearson Professional Center testing sites,” said Donna Surges Tatum, NCBAC Board of Directors Chair. “The only treatment available to those with Alzheimer’s is care-based, and their quality of life rests in the hands of the caregivers. Certification will give assurance that loved ones are tended to by professionals who have demonstrated competence.”

“Pearson VUE is proud to be the testing partner for such an important certification in the health care industry,” said Robert Whelan, president of Pearson VUE. “NCBAC can be assured that health care professionals who seek their certifications will receive a secure and consistent testing experience each and every time they test with us.”
