Pearson VUE signs new contract with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to deliver their level 2 and 3 nursing exams exclusively through the Pearson VUE UK network.

January 21, 2008 — The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has signed a contract with Pearson VUE to deliver their level 2 and 3 nursing exams through the Pearson VUE UK network of testing centres as computer-based tests.

Pearson VUE has won a five year exclusive contract to deliver the Certificate in Veterinary Nursing exam. It will be a multiple-choice computer-based test which will replace the RCVS’ current paper-based assessment.

“We are delighted to be offering e-testing to our candidates at last. The convenience of local test centres and flexible appointments will take away much of the stress of attending a paper-based exam. We are sure that the employers of our student veterinary nurses will appreciate the increased flexibility too; they will no longer need to release their valuable staff on a set day to attend an exam, often many miles away”, said Elizabeth Earle, Head of Veterinary Nursing.

Pearson VUE leads the way in helping organisations develop and deliver their tests on a computer, delivering some 4 million high-stakes tests worldwide each year. One of the challenges that have faced the RCVS has been the way practice staff have had to travel to take their examinations. For a small practice this can be an issue having multiple members of staff away from their place of business on the same day and with large distances to travel. Utilising Pearson VUE’s network of 150 testing centres in the UK, student veterinary nurses will have far greater local access to the test allowing them to attend without causing staffing issues for their practice.

Paul Howarth, Managing Director at Pearson VUE, commented, “We are definitely seeing a move towards CBT (Computer-Based Testing) and organisations such as the RCVS clearly seeing the benefits it brings over paper-and-pencil testing. Having already seen UK medical licensure testing moving towards CBT, it is an obvious move for the RCVS to make. We are very excited to be working in partnership with the RCVS to deliver this important test.”
