About Pearson VUE
Pearson VUE is built on a foundation of experience in electronic testing. In 1994, three pioneers in the electronic testing industry set out to create an alternative test delivery solution that incorporated state-of-the-art technology and unparalleled service. They established Virtual University Enterprises (VUE), now known as Pearson VUE, as an electronic testing and course registration company.
NCS acquired VUE in 1997 to spearhead its entry into electronic testing. In 2000, NCS was purchased by Pearson plc, a U.K.-based international media, publishing and education company, earning over $9 billion in annual revenue. With this move, Pearson VUE joined a prestigious family that also includes Pearson Education and the Financial Times Group.
In 2006, Pearson VUE acquired Promissor, a leading provider of knowledge measurement services with more than 25 years of experience assessing and certifying professionals in the real estate, insurance, mortgage lending, contracting, employment and healthcare industries.
In 2010, Pearson VUE acquired Integral7 (now Pearson Credential Management), a leading data management software provider. The addition of Pearson Credential Management was the perfect complement to Pearson VUE’s existing credential management offering providing a broader array of software and services to its clients.
In 2011, the American Council on Education (ACE) and Pearson joined forces to create a new public-private partnership known as the GED Testing Service that drives the future direction, design, and delivery of the GED® testing program. Nearly 800,000 GED Tests are taken each year, and in 2011, more than 453,000 individuals were awarded their high school credential.
In 2012, Pearson VUE continued to expand its global reach and product offering by acquiring Certiport, a leading provider of performance-based foundational level certification exams and practice test solutions for academic institutions, workforce, and corporate technology markets. The acquisition of Certiport increased Pearson VUE’s global footprint through its exclusive network of partner sites in 152 countries.
Most recently, in March 2013, Pearson VUE acquired Exam Design Inc., a leading provider of examination development software used in high-stakes testing. Exam Design, and its Exam Developer software, is the perfect complement to Pearson VUE's in-house content development expertise and advanced test publishing capabilities. Exam Design personnel and software are grounded in years of experience gained from designing and building hundreds of high-stakes assessments for associations, corporations, and government entities. The addition of the web-based suite of tools called Exam Developer bring new item banking capabilities to Pearson VUE's customers.
